… As Aggrieved APC Legislators Fault Dogara On Federal Character
SAN FRANCISCO, July 02, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has told the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives that the party’s directives are supreme.
Buhari stated this when he met, Wednesday night, with the aggrieved party members of the House at a peace meeting at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was convened to resolve the lingering crisis in the party, particularly the one over House leadership positions.
At the meeting, former Minority Leader, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and his colleagues had presented an 11-point document summing up their grouse with the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and 38 others.
They maintained that the argument by Dogara, that adherence to federal character informed his decision not to honour the party’s nomination of Principal Officers, was feeble and untenable.
Citing precedents in which party interests had superceded federal character consideration, which has never been an issue until now, the Gbajabiamila group urged the President to ensure that justice is done to them as loyal party members.
President Buhari, had reportedly told Dogara at a private meeting on Monday that he stands by the position of the APC regarding the appointment of Principal Officers it submitted to the Speaker.
