BEVERLY HILLS, April 27, (THEWILL) – President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari has barred the news crew of the African Independent Television (AIT) from covering events at the Defence House Abuja, the temporary official residence of the politician until he takes the oath of office on May 29, 2015.

State security personal attached to the Defence House enforced the directive on the news crew of the television station that was severely criticized for unethical and unprofessional conduct during the presidential campaigns when it repeatedly aired a very offensive documentary on Buhari.

The NBC indicted the station over the political campaigns it aired against Buhari and his political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The news crew had arrived the residence to cover Monday’s visit of diplomats as well as executives of multinational oil corporation Total, when they were turned back citing security, ethical and family concerns.

Spokesman of the Buhari Campaign, Garba Shehu said the ban on AIT would remain until issues relating to standard and ethics of the station are sorted.

“AIT has been asked to stay aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, General Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to issues of standard and ethics. We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter but for now, the station has been asked to stand aside because, like I said, there are some family and security concerns,” Shehu told the press.
