BEVERLY HILLS, February 22, (THEWILL) – Yobe state Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, has faulted the claim by the Nigerian Army that it rescued some of the girls of the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, Yobe state, who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents on Monday.

THEWILL recalls that the school had done a head count on Wednesday and discovered that at least 94 students were unaccounted for with claims that the insurgents reportedly carted away foodstuff and other valuables before kidnapping some of the girls at the school.

Later, in a statement on Wednesday night by Abdullahi Bego, Spokesman to Governor Gaidam, the governor said the army had been able to secure the release some of the girls, even though he did not go into details.

“The Yobe State Government hereby informs the public that some of the girls at Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC) whose school was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists last Monday have been rescued by gallant officers and men of the Nigerian Army from the terrorists who abducted them,” the statement read.

“The rescued girls are now in the custody of the Nigerian Army. We will provide more details about their number and condition in due course.

But speaking when he visited community on Thursday, Gaidam told family members of the students to keep praying that the girls should be found saying that no girl was rescued contrary to claims by the Nigerian army.

THEWILL gathered that the statement irked the residents of the community as they were infuriated wondering how they could have been deceived all along.
