BEVERLY HILLS, July 18, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has promised to help families of victims of the flood that ravaged communities in Katsina State on Sunday.

This was revealed by Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo who paid a condolence visit to the state on Tuesday, saying government will collaborate with the state and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to compensate the victims.

He arrived at Jibia Local Government Area, where 10 communities were affected in company of the state governor, Bello Masari, on Tuesday.

THEWILL recalls that more than 44 persons were reported killed after a downpour wreaked havoc in the communities.

More than 1,000 houses were also destroyed with over 250 livestock confirmed killed in the heavy rain which started around 11:00 pm on Sunday and lasted till the early hours of Monday

The heavy rain caused the river channels in the affected villages to overflow their banks, sweeping away several vehicles, motorcycles and farmlands, and killing many residents in the process.
