BEVERLY HILLS, January 27, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday dismissed the ambitions of other opposition party governorship candidates in the state, saying his party structure on ground is “so large” that the other opposition parties have “no place” in the guber race.

Okowa said he has been to the country home of his main rivals in Ethiope East Local Government Area and Ughelli North Local Government and can say that the ruling party, PDP, was so at home with the people unlike the opposition Labour Party (LP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) which, he said, were not on ground with the people.

According to Okowa, “”We have just left Ethiope East where one of our brothers is contesting with me .With what I saw there and what I am seeing here (Ughelli North) today , I don’t think I have anybody contesting with me anymore.”

Okowa who spoke in reference to the numerical strength of his party, PDP, in the state, said the large turnout of supporters of the party was a testimony that the party has no match in the state.

“I must thank you for believing in the PDP. I must thank you for believing in our ticket and I must assure you that we will never disappoint you. We know the PDP has moved on consistently in the state, we never moved here and there. And that is the way it has been and this time we would continue to move in that manner,” he said.

Specifically, he said that his administration would pay special attention to Ughelli North local government where his APC challenger hails from, stressing that Agbarho for instance would be turned around to look like a modern city.

“I will pay attention to this local government, like I told the monarch (Ughelli Monarch) in the palace. But what I see in Agbarho, I didn’t like it and we would re-design the place and by the time we start appointment, Ughelli North would be happy with us but the greatest thing is the provision of jobs for our youths and that would be a key programme in our administration.

“We would continue to encourage and empowerment our women, through micro-credit scheme and agricultural programmes and we would empower the men who are in agriculture and put in place necessary machinery to develop the industrial sector that would create jobs for our people in Delta state.

“We would change the mentality of our youths because we want them to be better youths, we want them to be gainfully employed and together we would work to ensure we give them a stable future that they would enjoy,” he promised.

While soliciting for votes for all PDP candidates, Okowa however called for ethnic harmony among Deltans, saying his administration would ensure justice, fairness and equity in the distribution of the dividends of democracy to the people.

Addressing supporters in Isiokolo, headquarters of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Okowa said it was time to work vigorously for the party to capture every part of the state to deliver the votes and not time for quarrel.

“I urge you take the elections seriously. Take the campaign to house to house, door to door and market to market and ensure that we capture every area not yet captured,” he said.

He specifically said that his administration would place premium on Abraka, country home of the LP candidate, Ogboru, and university town, stressing that Abraka would be developed and given a facelift befitting a university town.

Meanwhile, over 3,000 members of All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party (LP) have defected to the ruling PDP in Ethiope East and Ughelli North local government area respectively during the campaign rally. Those who defected included the former Director General of Ogboru Campaign Orgnaisation, Coach Paul Ebiri ,who pulled over 1,200 members of his National Renaissance supporters to join force with the Okowa’s governorship project.
