BEVERLY HILLS, July 16, (THEWILL) – Former National Security Adviser, NSA, Sambo Dasuki says the immediate past government led by Goodluck Jonathan deserves commendation for giving the Boko Haram terrorist organisation a bloody nose, insisting that, that administration defeated Boko Haram before handing over to the Buhari government.
Although it was said at the time that the terror sect occupied several territory including about 16 local government areas in the North-East, he maintained that it was the actions of the Jonathan administration against Boko Haram that made the conduct of the 2015 general elections possible.
Dasuki stated this from where he is being held for allegedly awarding fictitious contracts and diverting about $2.1bn meant for the purchase of arms that would aid the counter-terrorism war. His views were contained in a foreward he personally wrote to Yushau Shuaib’s book entitled: ‘Boko Haram Media War – An Encounter with the Spymaster’.
The former NSA explained that the 2015 general elections would not have taken place, particularly in the volatile North-East region, if the government under which he served had not risen to the occasion to “defeat” Boko Haram.
He wrote, “In fact, without our intervention in ensuring the defeat of Boko Haram, the electorate could not have had the opportunity to exercise their franchise.
“It is a fact that we provided peace and stability that afforded Nigerians, especially in the North-East in voting for their governors, legislators and others in the 2015 elections.
“In the warfront are evident success stories which Shuaib has mentioned in some of the articles that featured in this book, especially on media relations, self-censorship, gallantry in recovering dozens of cities and towns among other declassified revelations.”
