SAN FRANCISCO, May 16, (THEWILL) – A former Governor of Plateau State and current senator representing Plateau North, Mr. Jonah David Jang has been remanded in a Jos prison until May 24th when ruling on his bail application will be determined.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Wednesday arraigned the politician before a Jos High Court over allegations bordering on fraud during his tenure as governor.
Also, the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Wednesday withdrew all charges against the senator because the EFCC had filed similar charges.
Presiding judge, Justice Daniel Longji, granted the withdrawal of the application and struck out the case before proceeding with the EFCC suit.
Jang is alleged to have misappropriated funds disbursed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) meant for disbursement to prospective beneficiaries of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Fund (MSMEDF) amongst others in the 12-count charge sheet.
The said offences according to the charges are punishable under section 309 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria applicable to Plateau State.
