SAN FRANCISCO, May 24, (THEWILL) – The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has declared as illegal the caretaker committee constituted last Saturday to take over the affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from its acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
The presiding judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, in a ruling on Tuesday, directed the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase to ensure that members of the newly constituted caretaker committee are barred from taking over the running of the nation’s main opposition party.
The party had at its National convention in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital, named a seven-man committee to take charge of the party within a period of 90 days. This was after it dissolved the Sheriff-led National Working Committee, NWC.
The caretaker committee headed by a former two-time governor of Kaduna state, Senator Ahmed Makarfi has Senator Ben Obi as secretary. Other members of the committee include; Senator Odion Ugbesia, Senator Abdul Ningi, Kevin Usman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye and Mrs. Aisha Aliyu.
