Celtic Duo Brendan Rodgers And Scott Brown Claim Scottish Premiership Honours

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has been named Scottish Premiership manager of the season.

And Celtic skipper Scott Brown has landed the Scottish Premiership Player of the Season gong, having enjoyed a superb campaign in the Bhoys’ midfield.

It has been a fantastic first season under Rodgers for the Glasgow giants, who long wrapped up their sixth straight Premiership title and are bidding to complete an unbeaten season when they entertain Hearts on Sunday.

Rodgers’ men claimed the Scottish League Cup earlier this season and will land the treble if they beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final a week on Saturday.

Rodgers had already landed the PFA Manager of the Year prize while Brown was one of six Celtic players named in the PFA Team of the Year.

Rodgers told Sky Sports News HQ on Friday: “I am very happy for him (Brown). He has been brilliant all season for me, on and off the pitch, so it is nice he has been recognised for the level he has played and how he has captained the team.

“I think we are all happy for him.”

Asked if he thinks Celtic can finish the season unbeaten, he added: “That’s the plan.

“Last night (a 5-0 win at Partick) was a great performance. That was going to be a difficult game for us but we actually played very well.

“Now our focus is on Sunday. Not a lot of recovery time but the players have been absolutely brilliant – how they have recovered, how professional they have been.

“It is a day of celebration, whatever the result, because the guys pick up the trophy.

“But it would be nice to get our 34th win out of 38.”

Leigh Griffiths appeared to be unhappy at having been substituted on Thursday night but Rodgers dismissed the suggestion that the forward might be set to leave the club.

“Leigh is a terrific boy,” said the Celtic boss. “I have seen some elements saying that’s his last game.

“It is absolutely not at all. Leigh is very much a part of what I am doing here.

“He wants to play, he has had a frustrating season and I have empathy for him. We had a conversation this morning.

“My job is to protect the team and I needed him to come off, purely and simply because he is our only fit striker.

“He is absolutely fine. He apologised and there is no drama.”
