Update I: BREAKING: Buhari Retires SSS Director General

BEVERLY HILLS, July 02, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has forced the Director-General of the Department of State Security Services (SSS), Mr. Ita Ekpeyong out of office, appointing Mr. Lawal Musa Daura in his place.

A statement from the Office of the Head of Service, Thursday, said Mr. Daura’s appointment “is with immediate effect.”

THEWILL was told by a source that Mr. Ekpeyong tendered his letter of resignation early Thursday morning after receiving a personal call from Buhari that his services were no longer needed.

The Statement from the office of the Head of Service Reads:

“President Muhamadu Buhari has appointed Lawal Musa Daura as the new Director General Department of State Security Service. The appointment was conveyed today in a letter by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Barrister Danladi Kifasi.

Lawal Musa Daura was born in Daura on the 5th of August, 1953. He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1977 – 1980. He started his carrier in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of Director.

He was at one time the Deputy Director Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre at the Presidential Villa Abuja between 2003 and 2007. He also served as the State Director of Security Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo States.

He attended various professional courses both home and abroad including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Kuru.

“The appointment is with immediate effect.”

BEVERLY HILLS, July 02, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari has forced the Director General of the SSS, Mr. Ita Ekpeyong out of office, a source familiar with the development said Thursday.

The source also said the President would relieve his ADC and CSO of their jobs as well following the spat between both men over the control of the president’s security.

SSS spokesperson, Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, declined to comment when THEWILL called her, saying, “I am not in Nigeria” and rushed off the phone.
