BEVERLY HILLS, May 24, (THEWILL) – Two of the five Borno emirs forced to flee their domain by Boko Haram insurgents have returned to their palaces.

The returnee emirs – Muhammadu Askirama of Askira, and Ismaila Mamza of Uba – returned to their respective palaces on Tuesday in the company of the Deputy Governor of the state, Mamman Durkuwa.

The emirs fled to Maiduguri, the state capital, when the insurgents took over their domain in Askira/Uba local government in August 2014 and announced the establishment of caliphate rule.

However, the military has succeeded in pushing them away prompting their return.

Speaking at a short ceremony at their palaces, NAN reports that the monarchs commended the military for their gallantry in routing Boko Haram militants.

They added that with the successes recorded, the sect would soon be a thing of the past in the country.

In his speech, Durkuwa assured the emirs that the government would undertake projects to restore life back to the area and urged residents to be law abiding and report any security threat to relevant agencies.

Other emirs yet to return to their domain, Kyari El-Kanemi, the Emir of Bama, Muhammad Ibn Masta, Emir of Dikwa, and Muhammad Timta, Chief of Gwoza, are being expected to return soon.
