Borno: Again, Nigerian Army Kills Several Insurgents In Fresh Raids On Boko Haram Camps

SAN FRANCISCO, November 05, (THEWILL) – The military appears to be winning the war on terror as fresh air and land raids on Boko Haram camps in Borno State have again led to the killing of many of the insurgents and destruction of a large number of their vehicles .

Disclosing this on Tuesday, the military also said the insurgents had planned to detonate a large catchment of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in some Borno towns and villages.

A statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Lt. Col. Muhammad Dole, said: “Simultaneous aggressive operations conducted by the troops from 5 Brigade at Gamboru Ngala axis and 21 Brigade at general area of Bama Kelani road recorded huge success on Monday, November 4. 2013.

“This was done in conjunction with Close Air Support from 79 Composite Group and other sophisticated platforms from the Nigerian Air Force.”

Dole disclosed that during the operations, “several Boko Haram terrorists were killed and others were fatally injured. ”

He said: “A total of 13 vehicles and several motorcycles belonging to the terrorists in both operations were destroyed. Some of the vehicles destroyed were containing improvised Explosive Device (IED) meant to be detonated in some towns and villages within Borno State. Several arms and ammunitions were also captured.”

The Army PRO said previously, the insurgents around Gamboru-Ngala-Mafa, Dikwa and Marte roads had arbitrarily blocked road and wreaked havoc on motorists and adjacent villages. He disclosed that the Bama- Kelani-Pulka-Firgi general areas were hitherto infested with incessant insurgents who had variously attacked and looted and caused panic and anxiety among the people of the area.

Dole said the military responded to credible information from the general public and was able to trace these camps and hideouts which were eventually destroyed wit severe to the Boko Haram members.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Obadiah Ethan, according to Dole, has expressed “his sincere appreciation to the good citizens of Borno State for their cooperation and understanding,” even as he urged them to continue to be resilient and supportive “as the troops face the daunting tasks of fighting insurgency.”
