BEVERLY HILLS, April 27, (THEWILL) – Rampaging Boko Haram gunmen who disguised as military men in army camouflage, Monday, killed no fewer than 21 persons when they intercepted a convoy of vehicles loaded with foodstuff along a highway in Yobe State.

The victims were said to be internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, from their communities which were recently liberated by the army.

Local sources told THEWILL that the IDPs were coming from their communities in Lazarawa, Ngirbua, Maram and Garin Kuyam in Gujba local government area where they had gone to get foodstuff from their abandoned silos when they ran into the insurgents in Bultaram village.

One source said the insuegents “opened fire on all of them,” adding ” we believe they cannot be soldiers but insurgents dressed in military camouflage.”

It was not however clear if the IDPs obtained security clearance from the military before embarking on the fatal trip, though an indigene of the area, said, “We all received the good news that military had taken over the place. That is why they went.”

A councillor representing Ngirbua, Malam Baba Nuhu, nonetheless confirmed that the attack had been reported to the security agencies, though advising that security clearance must be obtained by the IDPs before returnIng to the recently-liberated communities..

“I don’t know whether they contacted the security agencies before embarking on the journey. Seventeen of those killed were from Lazarawa, two from Ngirbua, one from Maram and one from Garim Kuyama”, he said.
