SAN FRANCISCO, February 11, (THEWILL) –The Nigerian Army Thursday night confirmed the arrest of 12 senior officers, one of them believed to be Colonel Ojogbane Adegbe, a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, saying they have been transferred to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for investigation over the misappropriation of billions of naira earmarked for the procurement of arms.

THEWILL had exclusively reported late Wednesday that authorities had detained Colonel Adegbe, who was recalled from a military course in the United Kingdom and subsequently detained by the army command on allegations that he received at least $47 million from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and helped disburse same to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to support President Jonathan’s bid to emerge as the party’s sole presidential candidate in the last election cycle.

The statement said guilty officers would face a Military Court Martial.

THEWILL could not independently confirm the identities of the other senior officers as at the time of writing this news report.

The full text of the statement reads: “The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that 12 Army officers have been sent to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), for investigation.

“This comprised of 3 serving Major Generals, and one retired, 3 Brigadier Generals, 4 Colonels and 1 Lieutenant Colonel. However, it should be noted that at the end of the Commission’s investigations those found culpable will be tried by a military Court Martial.”
