BEVERLY HILLS, November 12, (THEWILL) – Gallant local hunters in the Mahia area of Adamawa State, Tuesday, laid ambush for a group of Boko Haram insurgents, who had occupied their town Monday, killing 80 of the insurgents and recaptured their town earlier occupied by the terrorists.

Local sources disclosed to THEWILL that the local hunters who were apparently angered at Monday’s attack on their town decided to mobilise their members from neighbouring towns and engaged the rampaging Boko Haram gunmen in a fierce battle.

One of the gallant local hunters said: “We fought gallantly, killed 80 members of the insurgents and recaptured Mahia Local Government headquarters from their control,” as he maintained that they would have sent the insurgents packing from all the captured areas if given the chance by the military.

“The military kept telling us that we cannot be allowed to go after the insurgents since we are not legally constituted.

“We can only appeal to the military authorities to scrutinise us and authorise us to face the Boko Haram insurgents in a battle which I believe we will defeat the insurgents and regain our lands.

“If the military can authorise us and give us back-up, we will wipe out the insurgents because we know their hideouts and if it is juju (local charms), we will match them for it,” he said.

According to the local hunter, “Boko Haram fears us because they know what we can do. Let the military leave us with Boko Haram and see what is going to happen. We took advantage of the fact that the soldiers have fled the area and used the opportunity to kill and chase some of the insurgents out of Mahia.”

He explained that the insurgents were ambushed between Mahia and Mubi, and after a fierce battle, about 80 of the insurgents were killed while the remaining few were chased out.

The routing of the insurgents has however sent jitters down the spine of the residents, who out of fear of reprisal attacks, have started fleeing Maiha and its environs to Yola, the state capital .

However local sources in the area disclosed that over 20,000 local hunters in the state have agreed to join the military in liberating the remaining five captured Local Government Areas from the insurgents.

This is to compliment the new operation “No mercy” bombardment launched by the military to recapture all occupied areas from the insurgents in the state.
