…Picks PDP Nomination Form For Governorship
SAN FRANCISCO, October 20, (THEWILL) – As the race for the 2015 governorship election in Yobe State begins , a former Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Yerima Ngama, has picked up the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s N11million nomination form as he formally joined the race.
Expressing the desire to reverse all the unfavourable development indices characterised with the state for the good of the average Yobe man, Ngama noted, in a chat with journalists in Damaturu, the state capital, after picking up the form, that “there can never be a better time to serve Yobe than now.”
The former Minister, who is so far the only politician in the state to pick the N11m nomination form of the PDP for the governorship position, stated : “My ambition is hinged on the plight of the common people in the state who are poor in the majority. I am convinced that the time to offer myself for the service of my state at this exalted capacity is now.
“Time has come for our people to live a good life and make healthy children for our future generation and that is exactly what I represent if I am voted to be the governor of this state.”
Ngama promised that if voted as Yobe Governor in 2015, he would ensure the complete eradication of child killer diseases such as polio even as he lamented the high maternal mortality.
According to Ngama, “We have the worst result in maternal mortality rate; 218 women die at childbirth out of every 1,000. Polio has been eradicated in all of the states in Nigeria except Yobe State. This is unacceptable. For Yobeans to have a better future for their children and in generations to come, these kind of issues must be holistically tackled to say the least.”
On the security challenge, he lamented that the only area Yobe had excelled is in the area of peace which has now been violated.
“The only area where Yobe has excelled, in 2008, is the area of peace and stability. If you look at the statistics of crimes being committed across the nation, Yobe has the lowest but today, even our area of strength has been turned upside-down. Today, if you ask anybody, the single area we were proud of is now lost,” the governorship aspirant said.
As the race towards 2015 heats up, there are indications that the former Minister of Police Affairs and Agriculture, Adamu Maina Waziri, may also join though he had contested and failed on four successive occasions .
