EFCC Arrests: Five Former Jigawa Governors Visit Lamido

DUTSE, Sept 27, (THEWILL) - Five former Governors of Jigawa State today paid a solidarity visit to incumbent Governor Sule Lamido over the recent arrest of some officials of the state by the EFCC expressing disappointment over the action of the anti graft commission.

The former Governors include the first civilian Governor, Barrister Ali Sa'ad Birnin Kudu, General Olayinka Sule (rtd), Col. Ibrahim Aliyu rtd, General Raheed Shekoni rtd, and Col. Abubakar Maimalari rtd while Senator Saminu Turaki was said to have been out of the country.

The former Governors, said they were embarrassed when they first heard of the EFCC action, because of the laudable programmes executed by the Alhaji Sule Lamido adding the he deserves commendation and not bashing.

"We were in the state to sympathized with your Excellency and the people of the state over the recent flood disaster that wrecked havoc to over 1 million families across the state as well as to expressed our solidarity for you for the EFCC arrest of some officials of the Government", the former governors declared.

Brigadier Sule rtd explained that, while they were embarrassed by the action of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the former Governors of the state also expressed their concern on the flood disaster that displaced millions families and destroyed farmlands and animals worth N4.5bn.

"No matter what, we are behind you and we will continue to identify with your Government for interest of the state and its people", declared the team leader, who also passionately called on the people of the state to also rally support to Governor Lamido."

Earlier, the state Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, assured the former Governors that, he would do everything humanly possible to protect the sanctity and integrity of the office they held before him.

"Being a Governor of the state now, I owe you a duty to protect your persons, your history and the office you have held before me. Therefore I will not do anything to diminish the sanctity and integrity of the office," he said.

Lamido also assured that, he will not do anything that would bring political humiliation to the people of the state and the state as well, saying it will be unbecoming of him at his age to destroy the legacies left behind by his predecessors.
