PDP Holds Emergency Executive Council Meeting Wednesday

San Francisco, Sept 13, (THEWILL) - The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) for Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the party's National Secretariat in Abuja.

According to the text message statement on Monday night from the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Rufai Ahmed Alkali, "All members of NEC are expected at the meeting. The time of the meeting is noon.".

Coincidentally, the meeting is coming on a day Nigeria’s former military dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida is scheduled to formally declare his presidential ambition at a rally in Abuja. Babangida is also expected to name his running mate at the event.

The meeting was initially slated for Thursday but was moved backwards in what analyst say is a move to remove attention from Babangida’s declaration.

Issues concerning the party's preparation and guidelines for its primaries and general elections are expected to be discussed at the meeting.
