Emir Of Bauchi Dies After A 28-Year Reign

JOS, July 25, (THEWILL) - The Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu Jumba is dead. The late Emir had been on the throne for 28 years. A statement from Emir’s palace signed by the public relations officer of the emirate, Alhaji Kawu Yakubu confirmed the death, revealing that the Emir died in a hospital Cairo, Egypt, at age 77 after a protracted illness. He has been in the hospital for nearly two months. His corpse is still been awaited for burial. The body is expected to be flown in from Egypt to Bauchi through the Gombe international airport. Many dignitaries especially from the northern part of the country are already in Bauchi to receive the corpse. The late Emir Alhaji Suleiman Adamu was born on the Jan 07, 1933 in Bauchi and he attended Kobi Primary School from where he proceeded to middle school and thereafter, to Barewa College in Zaria. He was at the South Devon Technical College Torquay, Devon, England where he obtained a Diploma in Public and Social Administration. The late Emir worked as an engineer, development secretary and later became district head of Gwana, and Galambi. He was later seconded to the federal civil service as Assistant Secretary and later transferred to Public Service Commission. He also worked in the federal ministry of external affairs, Embassy of Nigeria, in Cairo, and was Third Secretary Permanent mission of Nigeria to the United Nations office in Geneva, Switzerland. He became Emir of Bauchi on July 27, 1982. He left behind four wives and 19 children.
