ASABA, June 29, (THEWILL) - Delta State Government on Sunday poured encomiums on the new primate of Anglican Communion Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh even as he has promised building an ultra modern structure for the primate in appreciation of his spiritual contribution to the leadership of the State. The state Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan made the pledge at a send forth party organized for the Primate in Asaba, state capital, where he said Most Rev. Okoh has been a strong pillar for his administration. Uduaghan said the Primate and other leaders have been interceding spiritually in the affairs of the State and expressed appreciation to God for what he is using Most Rev. Okoh to do for the state and Nigerians. "Most Rev. Okoh and others have been prayerful and have several times interceded in the affairs of the state and we owe him a lot of gratitude." He said he was excited when Rev. Okoh was presented as the new Primate even as he explained that the gradual progress of Most Rev. Okoh in the work of God was an indication that God was with the state. The Governor prayed God to take absolute control of the spiritual life of the new Primate to enable him continue to give purposeful leadership to the Anglican Communion. Dr. Uduaghan, who also expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Lt. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma for his role in stabilizing the polity in Nigeria especially the Niger Delta, said Danjuma has been so keen in seeing peace and security triumph in the Niger Delta. Explaining further, he said, "Lt. Gen Danjuma is a special person to the people of Niger Delta. He is very interested in the affairs of Niger Delta and makes extra effort so that peace and security reigned in the zone." In his speech, the chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Lt. Gen. T.Y. Danjuma frowned at the late coming habit of people in authority. Danjuma who praised Uduaghan for being time conscious said late attendance of ceremonies was a bad habit. He said Dr. Uduaghan has proved several times that he was always time conscious and urged other leaders to emulate him. "I have attended two ceremonies in this state where Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan featured and each time he arrived before time. This is very good because most people in positions of authority do not keep to time." Gen. Danjuma described Most Rev. Okoh as hardworking and dedicated even as he explained that it was because of his sterling qualities that God choose him for his new assignment. He therefore expressed appreciation to God for promoting Most Rev. Okoh.
In his remarks, the Primate Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh expressed gratitude to the State Governor for all the honour done to him. Most Rev. Okoh thanked God for the upliftment especially making it possible for him to be chosen from the lot. In another development, the Primate at a thanks giving service organized for him by the state Government at St. Peter’s Anglican Cathedral Asaba, urged Christians to practice self denial. Most Rev. Okoh said that what was important in the work of God was not how much people sang and danced in the Church but how much Christians could deny themselves of worldly things. He therefore charged Christians to demonstrate selflessness by showing concern towards the welfare of others. The Primate urged Christians to heal themselves and demonstrate exemplary character in whatever discipline they found themselves. The church service witnessed presentation of souvenirs to the Primate and his wife by various Dioceses and Archdeaconry.
