“We Will Decongest Abuja City Centre” – FCT Minister

ABUJA, April 22, (THEWILL) - The present FCT Administration will do everything it takes to decongest the Federal Capital City, Abuja in consonance with its Master Plan.

The FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed said Thursday, in a meeting with the Minister of Land, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Nduese Essien in his office in Abuja.

The Minister remarked that the decongestion of the Abuja metropolis would allow facilities provided to work optimally without being overstretched.

Senator Mohammed emphasized that in order to achieve the desired result in this regard, the FCT Administration will open-up the Area Councils to enable them play their statutory role as enshrined in the Abuja Master Plan.

According to him, one of his administration’s policy thrust is to open-up the Area Councils and the Satellite Towns in the Federal Capital Territory to allow more people move in there.

He disclosed that basic infrastructure like roads, electricity, water and sanitation facilities would be provided to attract residents to such areas.

The Minister called on the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing & Urban Development; the Federal Housing Authority as well as private Mass Housing developers to seize the opportunity by moving into such areas to build mass housing for the people.

He promised to establish a more robust relationship with the Federal Ministry of Land, Housing & Urban Development to enable the two bodies discharge their statutory responsibilities to the Nigerian people.

Speaking earlier, the Minister of Land, Housing & Urban Development, Mr. Nduese Essien called for closer partnership with the FCT Administration on housing development.

He revealed that his Ministry is planning to build 25,000 housing units in Bwari Area Council; assuring that the first phase would commence in earnest.

The Minister also called for the setting up of a Committee to look into problem areas between his Ministry and the FCT Administration.
