Nigerian Resident Doctors Begin Strike This Thursday
San Francisco April 14, (THEWILL) - The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will this Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 8.am embark on a full blown strike to protest the federal government’s delay in implementing the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale, COMESS.
All Federal government owned hospitals nationwide including teaching hospital will be affected by the industrial action.
THEWILL gathered that a new salary scale was formally approved in September 2009 for resident doctors in the federal government’s employment but its implementation was said to have been moved to January 01, 2010 after series of negotiations between resident doctors and representatives of the federal government.
However, the federal government reneged on the terms of the agreement having failed to implement the scale on the 1st of January as promised.
One of the doctors who informed THEWILL of the strike said the action would cripple heath care delivery in all federal government owned hospitals adding that the strike would not be called off until the government implements the agreement.
