JTF Destroys Over 500 Illegal Refinery in Delta, Arrest Six

Asaba March 13, (THEWILL) - The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) curbing peace in the Niger Delta region last Wednesday, destroyed over five hundred illegal refineries situated at Gbekebor community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State and arrested six illegal bunkerers at Gbekebor community.

The clamp down has since been described as a major breakthrough for the JTF as its men intercepted and destroyed over 500 illegal fuel dumps which were scattered around the Ijaw riverine community, about 800 meters away from Warri main town.

Barges and equipments were also impounded and set ablaze by the JTF soldiers at Gbekebor and Gbai Kumor village within the locality

Following the raid, residents of the community where the illegal refining was carried out fled from their homes for fear of possible arrest by the JTF.

The JTF’s sector 1 commander, Colonel Jamil Sarkan who led the soldiers on the destruction on Thursday vowed to continue with the raids until the trade is eradicated from the area.

Some of those arrested were Ferok Ayausu, Umene, Akpoatu, Ogene Dewie, Friancis, Okere, Daivd Ajor and Raymong Bitonow.

Over One Hundred and ten illegal refineries were destroyed few months ago in various parts of the Niger-Delta creeks.
