Lagos Jan 27, (THEWILL) - Justice has come the way of Ms. Uzoma Okere, the lady who was publicly assaulted and stripped naked on a Muri Okunola street in Victoria Island, Lagos by some officers of the Nigerian Navy sometime in November 2008.

Justice Opeyemi Oke of a Lagos High Court on Tuesday awarded N100 million naira (One hundred million naira) to herself and Abdullahi Abdulazeez in damages and ordered the respondents to write a letter of apology to her which must be published in at least four national newspapers within four weeks from the date of the judgment.

The world had viewed a disturbing online posting of the assault of Ms. Okere with outrage which prompted an investigation into the incident by the Navy, Lagos State government and other government agencies.

Ms. Okere with the backing of Lagos State government filed a suit against the Nigerian Navy, Rear-Admiral Harry Arogundade and four naval ratings, for assaulting her for allegedly not allowing right of passage for a Naval convoy during peak time traffic.
