Edo State: Gunmen Abduct CAN Chairman

Benin City Jan 24, (THEWILL) – Gunmen have kidnapped the Chairman of the Christian Association On Nigeria, Edo State (CAN), Bishop Peter Imasuen.

Eyewitnesses told THEWILL that he was abducted at about midday just by his official residence (Bishop Court) in Iyaro, Benin on his way back from Church.

Bishop Imasuen who is also the Anglican Bishop of the Benin Diocese of the Anglican faith was said to have been trailed from the St. Matthew Cathedral church along Sakpoba road in the City.

No one was hurt in the incident, but a security man attached to the residence was locked in his post.

Edo police spokesman, Mr. Peter Ogboi was unavailable for comments on the incident. A relative of the Bishop said the kidnappers have made contact demanding N50 million naira for his release.

Abductions have been rampant in the ancient city of Benin. Anyone can be taken for a ransom: Doctors; nurses; businessmen and women, petrol attendants; vulcanizers; street traders; students; etc, have been kidnapped in the past for ransoms ranging from N5, 000 (Five thousand naira) to N30, 000,000 (Thirty million naira).
