Asaba Jan 15, (THEWILL) – Delta State government on Friday fulfilled its promise to immortalize late former first lady and wife of Nigerian former military dictator General Ibrahim Babangida by naming the seven kilometer Anwai Road after her.

State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Oma Djeba told the media that the state’s executive council chose to immortalize her for her contributions to the enthronement of the rights of women in the country.

"The State Executive Council decided to immortalize her and keep her memories aglow, especially in the light of her indelible contributions to the development of the country and the enthronement of the rights of women"

"Accordingly, the Exco has approved the re-naming of the Anwai Road, from Summit Junction to Anwai-Asaba campus of Delta State University, in honour of the former first lady. The road is now to be known as Maryam Babangida Way. The Oshimili Local Government should take immediate steps to effect the directive," he added.
