San Francisco Jan 13, (THEWILL) – Multiple sources tell the THEWILL that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of DHL Nigeria, Otunba Raheem Ade Komolafe, 71, has died in a London hospital on Tuesday.

Otunba Komolafe was said to have died from multiple injuries sustained after he was assaulted at a fuel station by the Chairman of Ilesa West Local Government Area, Mr. Ibukun Fadipe aka IBK during the fuel scarcity in Ilesa, Osun State. The incident occurred on November 15, 2009.

He was admitted at a Lagos hospital for a while before he was transfered to the London hospital after his condition became bad. He was also on a life support machine too, a source said.

THEWILL gathered that Otunba Komolafe was assaulted alongside his wife, Bolaji and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Alijat Olugunju by Fadipe and his thugs after they were prevented from jumping the motorist queue at a petrol station to buy fuel. Other motorists were also assaulted in the incident. The thugs were alleged to have used cutlasses, bottles and guns during the assault. Otunba Komolafe's wife was reported to have been beaten until she passed out at a nearby police station.

Investigations revealed that Otunba Komolafe and his wife had gone to rescue his mother-in-law and driver from being assaulted by Fadipe and his thugs when they suddenly descended on them too.

Unfortunately, Mr. Ibukun Fadipe has still not been charged over the assault, he was released after a spell in a police cell.

There has been no official statement from DHL Nigeria on his death. No one was available to comment as at the time of going to press.
