US Lawmakers Invites Nigerian Bomber’s Father
DR. UMARU MUTALLAB
San Francisco Jan 9 (THEWILL) – The United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations has invited Dr. Umaru Abdul Mutallab, father of Christmas Day Northwest plane alleged bomber, Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab to Washington DC on January 20 to testify before the committee.
The letter of invitation dated January 7, which was addressed to the Nigerian acting ambassador to the US, Mr. Babagana Wakil was signed by Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations, Senator John Kerry (D).
Dr. Mutallab had alerted CIA officers attached to the Nigerian Embassy in Abuja of his son’s radicalization in Yemen a few weeks before he attempted to blow up the Detroit- bound aircraft.
The alleged bomber appeared before Magistrate Judge Mark Randon in a Detroit courtroom in shackles on Friday and pleaded not guilty to all six count federal charges including attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction on American soil.
