Mohammed Babangida Speaks On Maryam’s Death

Abuja (THEWILL) - The first son Late Hijaya Maryam Babangida, Mohammed has said that the death of his mother, the former first lady has dealt a blow to every member of the Babangida family.

Mohammed spoke with media representatives in Minna on Wednesday after the interment of his mother.

“The death of our mother is a big blow to every member of our family and those whose lives she has touched in one way or the other. All the testimonies about her life by people, is an attestation that she lived a good life.

“As you know I was with her in the hospital and even when she breathed her last. We shared beautiful memories of the past and she kept telling me of how happy and fulfilled she was.

“I have no regrets today because I am consoled in the fact that my mother lived a good and fulfilled life.

When asked to speak about plans for her El-Amin International School he said running the school was a challenge for the family.

“It will be difficult to fit into the big shoe my mother has left but we have no option but to succeed because we know it was her passion and she loved it so much that we cannot afford to let her down at this time, he added.

Maryam Babangida died on Sunday at the age of 61 in a Los Angeles hospital of ovarian cancer. She was buried at the wee hours of Wednesday at the family compound in Minna, Niger State.

She was married to Nigeria’s former head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida, and they have four children, Mohammed, Aminu, Aisha and Halima.

The General and Mohammed were with her when she died.
