Abuja (THEWILL) - The gubernatorial ambitions of Professor Charles Soludo may be in jeopardy as a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday ordered the restoration of the dissolved Anambra State’s Peoples Democratic Party executive council loyal to chief Chris Uba.

Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf ruled that the Caretaker Committee inaugurated in the state by the national leadership of the party was illegal and ordered its immediate dissolution.

"By the powers conferred on this court under Order 7 (1) (3) of the High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2004 of the Federal Capital Territory, and the inherent powers of this court, I hereby restore the parties in this case to status quo ante at the time this suit was filed and served until the final determination of the substantive suit before this court.

"Specifically, the purported dissolution of the Executive Committee of the PDP, Anambra State on November 5, 2009 is hereby set aside. Similarly, the inauguration of a Caretaker Committee on November 10, 2009 to run the affairs of the PDP in Anambra State is also hereby set aside," he added.

Three partymen, Chukus Okoye, Ben Udeazor and R.O.C. Okpaloka had appealed to the court to declare the Caretaker Committee illegal.

With this ruling, chief Chris Uba now has the state’s party machinery, which Professor Soludo needs to effectively challenge for the governorship poll in February.

The Uba brothers are currently at  ‘war’ with the national executive of the party over the way it marginalized them in the process of choosing a flag bearer for the election.

Dr. Andy Uba has since decamped to the Labour Party (LP) where he is now the party’s candidate for the poll.
