Alleged Payments To BH: SSS Quiz Shekarau
FORMER KANO STATE GOVERNOR, MALLAM IBRAHIM SHEKARAU
SAN FRANCISCO, January 31, (THEWILL) – Former Kano State Governor and Presidential candidate in the April election, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau was interrogated by the Department of State Services (DSS) Tuesday following reports of alleged monthly payments to the terrorist group Boko Haram during his two-terms as governor of Kano State.
Recall that media reports had credited the heightened attacks in Kano by the Boko Haram to the cancellation of the payments to members of the sect.
Shekarau was grilled for about an hour at the secret service’s Abuja headquarters.
THEWILL gathered that he denied knowledge of any payments to the sect during his term as governor. He was neither arrested nor detained, according to sources at the agency.
The former governor is however back in Kano, according to a statement his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Sule Yaú Sule. The spokesman also refuted rumours that Shekarau was arrested.
“It has been observed that the former governor arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on board of IRS in Kano on Tuesday evening dressed in blue brocade and blue cap matching colour was smiling when some loyalists came to the MAKIA to welcome him back to the state.
“Immediately the IRS touched ground at 5. 06 pm, the former governor went straight to the VIP lounge to meet some loyalists that have been expecting his arrival.”
Shekarau advised “people to crosscheck whatever information they got before” going to the media.
