Bombings: Atiku, Uduaghan Express Shock, Outrage

SAN FRANCISCO, January 21, (THEWILL) - Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed deep shock and outrage over the coordinated bombings in Kano that claimed scores of lives. He also condemned the bombing in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Atiku said in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja that he was benumbed by the orgy of violence and destruction to lives and properties that was visited on the ancient city of Kano.

The former Vice President described as totally unacceptable and in negation of our humanity the justification of the killing of innocent Nigerians under any guise.

“Even with all the great strides that man has made in science and technology, he has not been able to create life. It confirms to us all as Nigerians no matter our faith that human life is the exclusive preserve of the Almighty and must never be equated to animal life that may be taken at will,” Atiku said.

He expressed his condolences to the families of all those affected by the bombings and to the government and people of Kano State; the Nigeria Police command and the Nigeria Immigration Service which were targeted in the attacks. He also expressed his condolences to the Channels TV and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the death of the young Channels TV Kano Correspondent, Enenche Akogwu.

He urged the security agents to step up their intelligence gathering initiatives to avert a repeat of Friday’s incident in Kano and the one that took place in Yenagoa on Saturday.

UDUAGHAN DECRIES THE KILLING OF CHANNELS TV CORRESPONDENT

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has condoled the management and Staff of Channels Television over the death of the station’s Kano correspondent, Enenche Akogwu in the wake of sectarian violence that hit the Northern city on Friday.

In a condolence statement issued in Asaba by the Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sunny Ogefere, the Governor decried the manner in which the correspondent was killed in his prime.

According to the Governor, “it is sad and disheartening that a defenseless young man can be brutally murdered in cold blood while performing his official duties lawfully”.

He remarked that the killing of Enenche and other victims of the violence in Kano as well as parts of the country underscores the need for Nigerians, irrespective of ethno-religious and political leanings to rally behind President Goodluck Jonathan to effectively tackle the security challenges facing the country.

Dr Uduaghan particularly urged the management and staff of Channels Television as well as the Enenche family to take solace in the fact that the late journalist within his short stay on earth was diligent, hardworking and courageous even to death.

The Governor prayed God Almighty to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.
