Imoke Cleared To Seek Reelection Under PDP

PORT HARCOURT, January 17, (THEWILL) - Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has been issued clearance certificate by the Peoples Democratic Party to contest in the party’s gubernatorial primaries later in the month after he was successfully screened.
Imoke, who received his clearance certificate from the PDP National Vice Chairman South-South, Chief Edet Nkpubre and later flaunted it to the cheering crowd, said he would want funds generated from the excess crude account to be shared monthly to enable state governments undertake its laudable projects for the interest of the people.
Speaking to newsmen after the screening exercise at the PDP South-South Zonal Office in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Imoke described the screening process as thorough, comprehensive and natural, adding that the question and answer session he had with party officials “went well”.
Imoke disclosed that by undergoing the two and half hour exercise among other qualities meant he had met the criteria to contest in the party primaries, and promised he will do more for the people because he has the political will and will not rest on his oars, explaining that the next challenge is the outcome of the exercise being taken to the court of the people to decide.
The Governor, who was received by various joyous political pressure groups carrying placards and banners in support of his second term bid, noted that the next step after clearance, is the party’s primary election, whose result will determined by the will of the people.
On oil subsidy, Imoke averred that it was wrong to say it has been withdrawn because it is still on but reduced noting that contribution from states to the policy had reduced their budget benchmarks
He explained that funds realized from the withdrawal of oil subsidy could be used by states to provide public transport, strengthen the social sector, provide employment as well as enhance the execution of dedicated programmes to better the lots of the people especially those that lack access and are vulnerable.
