Fuel Subsidy Dispute: Ochei Commends FGN, Labour
SPEAKER OF THE DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY RT. HONORABLE VICTOR OCHEI, FNSE (M), COMRADE SAMUEL DIETAKE (L) WHEN MEMBERS OF LABOUR UNIONS VISITED THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY DURING THE NOW SUSPENDED NATIONWIDE STRIKE.
ASABA, January 17, (THEWILL) - The Federal Government and Organized Labour have been commended for the mature manner with which they resolved the fuel subsidy impasse that nearly threw the Nation into confusion.
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Honorable Victor Ochei, FNSE who disclosed this when members of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) called on him to intimate him of the suspension of the strike, made it clear that it was not the intention of the federal government to impose hardship on its people.
Rt. Hon. Ochei who observed that the suspension of the strike checked the dubious intentions of some miscreants and interest groups, who could have hijacked the strike, lauded the Organized Labour for its concern for the welfare of the people.
He said that, Labour’s decision to dialogue with the federal government was a clear indication that the strike was embarked for the interest of the people and urged them to always work with the federal government in resolving issues.
The Speaker said the Delta State Government had already put palliatives in place to cushion the effect of the fuel price increase and assured workers of government good intention towards their welfare.
He said the Delta State Government enjoys cordial working relationship with organized Labour and commended the way they conducted themselves while the strike lasted adding that no casualty or destruction of property was recorded in the State.
The Delta State Chairman of TUC Comrade Samuel Dietake and the First Vice Chairman of NLC, Christopher Iyeke said the Speaker has shown a great sense of responsibility and understanding with Organized labor in the State and urged him not to relent in sustaining the harmonious relationship that exist between Labour and the legislature in the State.
