DIRECTOR-GENERAL, SSS, MR. EKPEYONG ITA

SAN FRANCISCO, January 17, (THEWILL) – Editors of online news portal, Pointblanknews Monday in a statement said State Security Services (SSS) operatives visited a hotel where one of its editor’s is presently accommodated in Abuja and sought personal details including his room number and the identities and number of visitors that may have visited him.

The statement did not include the name of the hotel nor the editor in question.

“The men who arrived the hotel of one of the editors in Garki at about 3:00pm went straight to the receptionists, introduced themselves, and enquired if one of the editors was a guest, the statement said.

“The supervisor on duty was quizzed for about half an hour…

“But sources close to the hotel said, they wanted to know the room the editor stayed, who were his visitors, and what were his activities.

“It was however clear that the hunt for our editors is not unconnected with some uncomplimentary stories about some serving ministers, published in the last few days,” the statement added.

Recall that SSS operatives had visited the Lagos bureau of Cable network CNN, where they sought to verify that the station’s visiting correspondent covering the fuel subsidy protests had a working permit to do so. CNN later said in its news broadcast of the visit that the operatives left after documents were verified. It added that they allowed the station continue its coverage of the protests, which was eventually called off at about 1.pm same day.
