NEW YORK, Feb 19, (THEWILL) – If you saw this presentation you would be as impressed as I was and still am. It was Nigeria’s Duro Olowu’s first ever showing in the United States during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.  Although his designs are already being retailed in luxury retail stores such as Barney’s, he had never formerly presented.

The inspiration for this collection Duro told THEWILL was New York itself.  The diversity and cultural fusion within the collection speaks for itself. The fearless mismatch of patterned fabric, colour and textures is something not many can achieve without failing.  Duro continues to do so successfully every time in his designs.

Bethanne Hardison of Vogue Italia (photographed with me) worked with Duro in putting the presentation together.

No doubt Duro Olowu has marked his own spot on the high fashion map.  As a fellow Nigerian I am very proud of his achievement. As a fashion junkie, I will have to break the bank to buy one or two of the pieces from his Fall 2011 Collection.

*Side note*
It’s all about colour for Fall/Winter 2011. Hold on to your vibrant coloured spring clothes and just layer them come fall.

Nigerian born designer Duro Olowu.
