ABUJA, May 13, (THEWILL) - Senate on Thursday opened investigation into circumstances leading to the power outage at the international wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos last Sunday.
It directed its committee on Aviation to investigate the matter and report back to it for further legislative action.
The ugly experience which lasted for over four hours interrupted international flights from and to the airport.
The decision to probe the incident followed the adoption of a motion by the Chairman Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Anyim Ude who noted that the incident caused untold hardship to travelers.
He said the power outage was traced to burnt electric cables at the airport adding that the matter should be further investigated to forestall a reoccurrence.
Ruling on the motion, Senate President David Mark expressed concern over the incident and urged the committee to carry out a thorough investigation on the matter.
The Committee was given three weeks to submit its report.
