ABUJA, April 30, (THEWILL) - The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri on Friday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, restated the anti-graft agency’s resolve to capture fugitive former governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori adding that no person is above the laws of the federation.

Mrs. Waziri was at the villa to attend the inauguration of the eight-man Board of the Code of Conduct Bureau. She spoke to correspondents after the event.

The Chairman said, "Well, we have challenges and as you know, you cannot fight corruption in a situation where corruption is endemic and entrenched like what we have in Nigeria, to an extent that people are beginning to give up as those who are anti are even helpless trying to say that, oh what we can do?

"They are living with corruption and accepting corruption. You find a situation where we needed somebody to come and answer a few questions, the former governor of Delta, he fled and then the police went in and his villagers or people came out to support him, these are some of the things. But my saying is that nobody is above the laws of the land and the law is no respecter of persons. We are going to get these people," she added.

Urging Nigerians to join hands in the fight to eradicate corruption, she said, "All hands must be on deck including you the media, you have to inform the people truthfully, sincerely, taking the commitment of your fatherland into consideration and then the job will be done."

Chief James Ibori is being sought for interrogation over his alleged involvement in the use of Delta State government owned shares to facilitate credit for a private company with ties to him. Ibori has consistently denied his involvement in the fraud but has refused to turn himself in. His whereabouts is currently unknown.
