NNPC To Establish More Petroleum Product Storage Facilities

ABUJA April 29, (THEWILL) - The management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has reaffirmed its determination to establish more storage facilities for petroleum products as part of measures to ensure their efficient distribution and supply across the country.

The Group Managing Director of the Corporation, Mallam Shehu Ladan, made this commitment Wednesday when the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Eng. Patrick Ekpotu led a delegation on behalf of the state government to congratulate him at the NNPC Towers Abuja.

Mallam Ladan stated that the management of the corporation is redoubling its effort to build more product storage facilities in order to accommodate the petroleum products being refined from the Kaduna and Warri refineries.

"Let me assure you that the present day NNPC has resolved to establish more product storage facilities that would store the excess petroleum products refined from our refineries so as to curb the reoccurrence of product scarcity," Mallam Ladan reassured.

On the problem of product diversion from the Uyo NNPC mega station raised by the Deputy Governor, the NNPC helmsman assured the Akwa Ibom State Government of its readiness to put in place measures that would check such sharp practices in order to ensure that petroleum products get to the people at the regulated price of N65.00k per litre.

In his earlier remarks, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Godswill Akpabio represented by his Deputy, Eng. Patrick Ekpotu congratulated the GMD for his well-deserved appointment and assured him of the State Government’s collaboration to help him succeed in office.

He appealed for the urgent establishment of more product storage facilities so as to ensure effective distribution of petroleum products across the South –South geo-political zone.

"Akwa Ibom State is the highest producer of crude oil in the country and it has the longest coastline hence it is strategically positioned to easily supply petroleum products to other states of the federation and other neighbouring West African countries," he said.
