San Francisco, Jan 29 (THEWILL) – The Nigerian government will import 24 cargos of fuel in February to ease fuel shortage in the oil producing country according to Reuters.
Nigerian refineries have not operated at maximum capacity for years, which has left the country fully dependent on imported fuel for domestic use.
The Kaduna refinery with a refining capacity of 100,000 BPD and the Warri refinery with 125,000 BPD are still shut-in due to sabotage and maintenance. Only the two refineries in Port Harcourt with a combined refining capacity of 210,000 BPD are producing but at about 60% capacity.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which issues tenders for importation, is expected to pay over $100 a tonne for the commodity. The corporation this week issued an import tender but it has not yet been awarded to any company.
