… Explosions heard Around Maiduguri Thursday Am

SAN FRANCISCO, February 02, (THEWILL) – Six persons suspected to be members of the terror group operating in northern Nigeria, Boko Haram may have been killed by their own in what the military has described as “division among sect members.”

The killings occurred in Maiduguri, the Boko Haram headquarters.

Local media reports said the slaying occurred early Thursday morning in the homes of the sect members in Shehu North, the same district where the military said it killed 11 persons suspected to be members of the Boko Haram on Saturday.

“The killings may have been as a result of division among sect members,” Joint Task Force spokesman, Lt.-Col. Hassan Mohammed said in a statement Thursday.

In a related development, some residents of the Maiduguri said they were kept awake all through Thursday morning by loud bangs from bombs detonated at different locations in the city, barely 24 hours after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) picked up a man in Kaduna believed to be a senior member of the Boko Haram going by the alias, Abul qada.

Some residents also reported hearing sounds of sporadic gunshots but the army said there were no casualties following the incident.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has moved its 3rd Armoured Brigade from Jos, Plateau State to Gombe State following the destructive activities of the Boko Haram in the State.

A statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Andrew Idachaba said the move would restore sanity and secure the state.
